NWAA partners with Public Allies Alumni to create “Wilmington STIR”
Wilmington STIR provides community members an opportunity to invest in one another, share resources, and contribute to a sustainable network of creative social innovation within the City of Wilmington.
Wilmington STIR (Sitting Together Is Radical) is part of the international network of meal-based micro-granting initiatives known as Sunday Soup, founded by the Chicago-based research group, InCUBATE in 2007. The initiative offers a way to provide funding for creative projects through community meals. The formula is quite simple. People come together to share a meal and give a $10-20 donation. Everyone who donates gets one vote to determine which project receives the grant. Project proposals are received beforehand and presented during the meal, and at the end of meal the proposal with the most votes receives a grant comprised of that evening’s donations. The proposals accepted, and grants distributed, can vary from meal to meal.
